You only throw stones at the tree that bears fruit
People tend to criticize more those who are doing something to improve themselves than those who have simply given in to the worst of their defects. That’s why a popular saying goes, “they only throw stones at the tree that bears fruit.
Don’t worry if you’re criticized, you’re doing something right
People are obsessed with perfection, so much so that when they see something good, they look for some defect to show that it is not so good. For many, good is not enough, it must be perfect.
Alternatively, many people feel somehow better when they find fault with someone they know is better or is working on themselves. They first compare themselves to this person, and when they find themselves at a disadvantage, they decide that it is time to find the other person’s weakness.
However, in film, literature and art, to be a critic you have to have criteria. That is to say, the specialist has a theoretical, methodological and cultural background that allows him/her to make a judgment or opinion about a work. The critic deconstructs, compares, finds peculiarities, classifies and gives definition to the work thanks to the knowledge and experience he or she possesses.
However, in real life this does not happen in the same way, people who criticize others generally have no criteria. Therefore, criticism has only the morbid objective of destroying and mocking, not of educating and giving meaning as in art or literature.
The point is that, for humans, there is no theoretically sustainable critique because we are layer upon layer of complexity and defects. Although art and literature are already quite complex, we humans are more so. So it’s very difficult to know if there really is such a thing as “constructive criticism”. If a person wants advice or a suggestion, he or she asks for it, so it’s better to give advice than to make a criticism.
That said, don’t be upset when criticism is raised after every good deed you try to do, at least you’re trying and you’re not perfect, while the one who criticizes you instead of doing something is wasting his time on words that benefit no one. Try to continue your good deeds, building your character above the opinion of others. Seek to be a better version of yourself, for yourself.
There is no greater satisfaction than to go to sleep with a crystalline heart, whole, with nothing to hide. Because those who live to please others often have to lie and pretend, but those who are authentic and concentrate on themselves live in peace and thus blossom and bear fruit.
In time, you will bear the fruit of all the efforts you have made to change. And the first person to enjoy that better version will be yourself. So come on! Never give in to criticism.
