Negative person characteristics
We human beings are characterized by being totally emotional, so to say that a person is totally negative or positive in essence is not a fair statement, since both things shape our personality and manifest themselves according to our perception. However, there are individuals who do not manage to maintain balance by always focusing their thoughts and actions on one of these two polarities.
In this article we will present the 5 traits that characterize negative people, so that you can recognize if you are falling into some of these attitudes and correct them as far as possible, because staying in this state is detrimental to your mental and physical health.
1 Dedicated to achieving the impossible, a very negative perspective
There are people who spend a lot of time in their lives doing impossible things, this attitude only generates frustration and anxiety. What you must do is accept what you cannot change and work on what is under your control. For example, we strive to stay young when it is normal for our body to begin to age, so suffering for natural things like this only feeds a negative attitude towards life’s circumstances.
2 Stop trying
Negative people give up in the face of adversity, the inconvenience may have a quick and easy solution to execute, but their thoughts do not allow them to see beyond their own negativity. To correct this you must bear in mind that not everything in life is pink and not dark, breathe and try to see everything from the calm. Remember that success is achieved with effort and perseverance.
3 Taking it all personally
The ego always likes to be the protagonist in everything; if you live in negativity you will surely be full of immaturity and insecurities, therefore you have a low tolerance for criticism, whatever it may be, and you are also very afraid of being embarrassed in any situation.
Taking things too seriously increases negative attitudes towards others and oneself, it is important to work on self-esteem to start downplaying other people’s comments.
4 Complaining about absolutely everything
We’ve all complained at one time or another, but when someone does it permanently they are incorporating the complaint as a way of life. In these cases, people’s perception changes and their view becomes negative first and foremost, i.e. their attention is focused on misfortunes, illnesses, suffering and they feel unable to look after themselves.
Piqueras, Ramos and collaborators wrote an article in 2009, in which they explain that the negative emotions born from the complaint interfere with healthy habits and encourage the development of inappropriate behaviors that endanger our health. They also refer to the close relationship between negative emotions, mental and physical disorders:
Not only is there an influence of negative emotions on the onset and course of these disorders, but a high comorbidity of both mental disorders and medical illnesses with anxiety and depressive disorders and with anger and pathological disgust is recognized
5 Comparing your life with others
By comparing your life with that of others you are judging your own criteria and remain in a constant evaluation that only leads directly to frustration and therefore hostility.
There are people who use comparisons with the intention of minimizing the success of others and making their own success stand out. They may even feel satisfaction for other people’s misfortunes, believing that the suffering of others places them in a more privileged situation.
Give thanks daily for all you have and for all that is to come, do not fall into hateful comparisons that make you live in negativity.
If you detect some of these negative attitudes in you, don’t waste time and start changing them now. Tilting your balance towards the negative does not earn you anything, but it will make you lose opportunities that you will never be able to regain.
