No salary is worth your mental health
In the society in which we live today, we seem to care much more about money and this has led us to forget about things that are in some ways much more important. This situation has also led us to work much more than our bodies can handle and all for a higher salary.
All this is causing us very serious problems in our quality of life and health. At no time do we think that the material is something transitory and that we should not put a price on our peace and mental health.
Every day we worry about what we are going to eat, what we are going to wear and how to pay the monthly household bills. No doubt, these are concerns that no matter how much we want to, we cannot ignore. Certainly, without money we cannot live, for it is the fruit of our labor that has allowed us to have the life we have today.
Of course, there are certain variations, for example, there are the dissatisfied people who desperately want to grow in their company, get higher salaries or have up to two jobs in order to have a much better quality of life. This type of nonconformity is not bad at all, in fact it helps us to overcome ourselves.
The problem is when we stop working to live and start living to work.
We spend our lives working for a company that often doesn’t even belong to us. We become part of the work, like a kind of machine, and forget how important it is to invest time in ourselves.
Today, more people suffer from post-traumatic stress, extreme tiredness, eating problems, difficulty in relating to those around them, and all this is a consequence of a very exhausting work routine, one that does not allow time for living and recreational activities such as walking, running, dancing, going to a movie or enjoying any other outdoor activity. In other words, you leave behind everything that is really living.
It’s important to work, but if your work is cutting down on your life, maybe it’s time to put it aside and start working on yourself and choose some other job that understands these interests a little more. However, if your work is hard and at the same time impossible for you to quit, then try to create a kind of balance where you can allow yourself some time to enjoy what you like best.
Remember that time does not go backwards, and that once you dedicate your whole life to your work there will no longer be time or even physical strength to enjoy anything at all. Money is important but it will never be more important than your own physical and mental integrity. The day you leave this world you will be replaced by someone else, some will remember you but they will go on with their lives and in the meantime you will never have been able to live yours.
